LADY HAYES POSTER

This is a poster I worked on for myself actually. I was playing a show with another group with a similar name, called Lady Bird. Since the names were so similar I wanted to put them in different fonts. This can be tricky, because having too many fonts can look messy, but I really like the way this turned out.

WESTERN DREAMS

I did this project as a promotion for the Toronto based photographer, Chris Gordaneer. He did a series on Cowboys that I was inspired by. The design above is being printed as a belt buckle in pewter, and the belt strap will be a 32 inch long printed piece of paper, double sided. I will be attached the two pieces together. I thought this was super cool. I really like that the belt is paper instead of leather. Once printed, I'll post the final.

POSTERS

I love working on posters, especially for musicians. Typically you have oodles of freedom and the turnover is super quick, which is great for me because I really like working fast.

SPICE SNOWBOARD DESIGNS

I used to snowboard when I was a teenager. Well, at least I thought I could. I think it was more about looking cool on the hills and trying to find where all the cute boys were. haha. When I was asked to design for Spice, I was pretty excited. Especially when they told me the target market was 13-16 year old girls. I based these designs on something that I would have died to ride as a youngster.

STEVE STRONGMAN / BLUES IN COLOUR

Steve Strongman is such an amazing guitar player and singer. I was really excited to work on this one so I turned it over pretty quickly. Steve was a dream to work with. Matt did the photography for this as well. I LOVE the inside photo and really wanted to use it for the cover. After a quick chat with Steve, I realized he was after something more modern, so I went with it and I think it turned out really clean and cool.

EDDIE ORSO HE SAID/ SHE SAID

I worked on this for Eddie at the beginning of this year. I really tried to visually push the He Said She Said dialogue that Eddie carries throughout the album. I really fell in love with this project. When I'm excited about something, I'll work on it like a maniac until its done. My favourite part is the lyric side of the poster. I love how it all comes screaming out of the mouth.

KD LANG ALBUM ART

This is a 25th anniversary edition for one of kd langs 1984 releases. I was commissioned to do this by her previous Canadian Label. I was handed a huge box of old photos, negatives, show posters, vinyl, and promo to work with. It was pretty sweet to dig through it all. My client wanted to make sure that is felt the same as the original release. I solved this by cutting out elements from the vinyl and arranging them all on white. It turned out really cool.

REVIVAL DEAR ALBUM ART

This is the album art for a band that I played in for years, Revival Dear. It was awesome to work on. Matt and I did this one together. The inspiration for this came from a few old books. I've always had a soft spot for vinyl so anytime I can sneak it in album art, I usually do. haha.

GOOD LOVELIES ALBUM ART

The Good Lovelies are always a blast to work with. I brainstormed the idea with Matt and we finally came up with the idea that the Lovelies would be like flowers. I styled the girls with some of my personal collection of vintage and also stumbled upon a Victorian Wardrobe sale in the east end ( I love when things time out so magically).
I wanted their name on the cover to be 100% original. Sometimes using a font just doesn't cut it. So I bought a ton of rope and dirt and spent the day outside with a couple beers spelling out their name and photographing it. This was the best version.
There is also a booklet with all their lyrics inside that flows with the sky theme.
I was really happy with this art, and for them for winning a Juno for this album. Go girls!

JILL BARBER CHANCES

When I heard Jill Barber's album Chances, I knew right away what I wanted to final product to look like. This was a lot of fun to work on for many reasons. I got to work with my husband Matt again. Which is always inspiring to me. This was also one of the most challenging designs for me. I had to merry the old and new together without it looking like a mash up of too many ideas. I was originally thinking that I would age the entire package, but I fell in love with how clean it all looked.

ROB SZABO ALBUM ARTWORK

Rob Szabo is an amazing singer songwriter who's inspired me in many ways. He is one of the most serious musicians I've ever met. After touring with him for a month, he became a close mentor for me. When he asked me to do his album art, I was stoked. The inspiration came from a dark brown and red scarf that we found when I was styling him for a photoshoot. My husband Matt Barnes took the photo you see on the cover, which we both referred to as ' The Good Rob'. In the other photo, ' The Bad Rob', He was wearing a beat up leather jacket and a super low cut v neck shirt. It was my favourite shot out of the two but, when matched up with the body of songs Rob had recorded, this particular photo worked the best.
